What is Lighting Competition ?

It is India’s first of its kind Lighting Competition where contestants will be given a Maya Scene file with basic textures to create best lit visual imagery based on the theme to claim the coveted ‘SuperMojo-Lighter’ Title.

This competition will have two separate categories – Professional and Students.

Why you should participate?

ABAI Fest and Summit 2016 is a great platform to exhibit your talent, get noticed and also win exciting prizes. It’s not only about winning, it’s about participating, rubbing shoulders with industry professionals, and showing a strong effort thus taking a meaningful step in the right direction for growth.

How Does It Work, the duration and what is the SuperMojo-Lighter Title?

Simple. All contestants will assemble under a common roof on the given day and compete to create the most compelling Digital Lighting in a controlled setting. The theme will be revealed prior to the start of the competition. Final output will be required as final scene file, compositing file, final single render image of the Scene and all layers (passes) used to create the final image for judging.

Contestant will have to bring their own laptops and use Maya (mental ray or render man and compositing software), the software can be pre-loaded and the temporary license will be provided by us. For those who cannot bring their laptops, limited number of workstations will be provided on a first come first serve basis. Please indicate the need at the time of registration.

The Winner takes home exciting prizes and will wear the SuperMojo-Lighter Title till the next year’s competition.

The Digital Lighting Competition starts at 9 a.m. and wraps by 9.30 p.m. on the same day of April16, 2016. It is advised to arrive one and half hours prior to the start of the competition.

What about hardware and software?

  1. A panel of experts from the Lighting Industry in India will judge the competition.
  2. Most important criteria for judging will be the quality, mood, composition, and appeal to the theme.
  3. The decision of the judges is final, based on the criteria set out in the competition, and no negotiation will be entertained over this decision.
  4. You will be purely judged based on your Lighting skills like clarity, appeal, composition and visual story-telling.
  5. Contestant will be disqualified if he/she is caught using any existing art.

1. Lighting Competition ? Great! I am up for it. How do I participate?

You need to Register for the competition and follow all the relevant guidelines, and important dates mentioned on the site here.

2. Is this competition open for Students / Professionals? What if I am part-time studying and part-time working?

The competition has two separate categories – Students and Professionals. Be sure to select the appropriate category while filling the Registration Form. If you are a part-time student and part-time working professional, you will qualify under the Students Category.

Contestants must share a link to their work in the Registration Form to be selected for the Competition. Only the best of the best will be selected and pitted against each other for the competition.

3. When will the theme of the competition be announced? Will I be intimated by email about the same?

Theme of the competition and other specific details pertaining to this category will be revealed just before the start of the competition on April 16th. It is advised to arrive one and half hours prior to the start of the competition.

4. Apart from the prizes, will the winning entries receive feedback on the submission?

Yes. If you would like the judges or an industry expert can give you a personal feedback, either via a Live Video Call or Recorded Session.

5. What are the timings of the Competition?

6. I submitted my Registration before the deadline. Can I re-submit if I want to?

Yes, you can. Finalists’ will be shortlisted post the registration deadline on April 6, 2016.
